Juli Sando (1993) est cinéaste et artiste basée entre la Suisse et le Japon. Son travail mêle poésie et politique, questionne langage, identité et société. Elle est autant active dans la réalisation de films que dans la performance, l’installation multimédia, le texte et l’expérimentation sonore. Sa démarche se caractérise par une attention aux moments de transition et aux phénomènes de disparition, et cherche à dessiner des possibilités de résistance dans la diversité des identités. Son dernier film «Fuku Nashi» distingué de quatre prix, porte notamment sur la question de mixité raciale, le poids des origines en relation avec la famille et avec sa propre identité à travers une approche autofictionnelle. Dans ses installations, elle travaille la matière de la vidéo et du son parfois de manière immersive, souvent aux côtés de sculptures de cire, de gravures sur métal ou de papier thermique, allant du petit au grand format. Prendre en compte l’environnement dans lequel elle crée et expose est aussi un élément important de son travail.

A côté de sa pratique personnelle, elle est également membre fondatrice de l’association de production d’art et de film «JoY», ainsi que du collectif «FAAB G», et curatrice sonore au sein du collectif «laptopradiø». Après deux années en tant qu’assistante pédagogique et de production à la Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design de Genève, elle rejoint l’équipe curatoriale du festival «Bureau Des Questions Importantes» en 2022.

Juli Sando (1993) is a filmmaker and artist based between Switzerland and Japan. Her work blends poetry and politics, questioning language, identity and society. She is as much active in performance, installation, text, sound experimentation as in filmmaking between documentary and fiction. Her work is characterized by an attention to moments of transition and disappearance, and seeks to outline the possibilities of resistance in the diversity of identities. Her latest film, «Fuku Nashi», which has won four awards, takes an intimate look at the issue of racial mixing, the weight of origins in relation to family and one’s own identity. In her installations, she works with the material of video and sound, sometimes in an immersive way, often alongside sculptures in wax, metal engravings, or thermal paper, ranging from small to large format. Taking into account the environment in which she creates and exhibits is also an important element of her work.

Alongside her personal practice, she is also a sound curator with the «laptopradiø» collective, a founding member of the art and film production association «JoY», and of the «FAAB G» collective. After two years as a teaching and production assistant at Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design of Geneva, she joined the curatorial team of the «Bureau Des Questions Importantes» festival in 2022.
